White Water Rafting in Uganda : White water rafting is a recreational activity that is done on a water body using an inflatable raft to navigate a water. It’s called white because the rafting is usually done on white water or on carrying degrees of rough water.

What makes white water rafting a thrill is the kind of risk involved that gives you an adrenaline rush and quenches your thirsty for over the edge fun.

In Uganda, white water rafting is done in Jinja at the Itanda falls where the river Nile flows out of the popular lake nalubale also known as Lake Victoria.

This is one of the most popular top up safari activities done in Uganda. It can be done at the either at the start of the safari, in the middle of the safari to get a break from all the heavy safari activities, and even at the end to close your safari adventure.

The Itanda falls or the river Nile at the Itanda falls side has some strong grade VI and grade V rapids that may scare off first time rafters but be of no worry, anyone can white water raft; you don’t need experience or special expertise.

Plus, to put your heart at rest all the necessary safety precautions are done and taken before, during and after the activity to ensure everyone is safe. Plus, rescue kayaks and safety boats are always close by in case of emergencies.

So, the white-water rafting activity is done in routes, there is a route that floats down the Nile. This route has spectacular surroundings that include lush flora and some sights of wildlife. this route is known for its strong rapids though, so be in the know.

The other routes have mild rapid, they maneuver around the extreme and heavy rapids but still give you the experience you are dying to have.

The good thing with either route that you choose you can do it as an individual or as a group.

The groups go in what is known as a family float rafting option. here larger boats are used and these boats are quite robust for the waves and rapids and can easily find stability on the water body.

Whether you are in a group or your individual, just know you will have faun.

The water rapids are about 20km of the Nile River and each section gives you a filled experience.

White water rafting is usually a one-day activity, so you don’t need to kill a lot of your safari time. In fact, you travel to Jinja and have the white-water rafting activity on the same day of travel and still travel back to Kampala.

Meaning it’s one of those activities you only plan for, for a day.

If you decide to stay in Jinja after your white-water rafting activity, you can engage in other activities like source of the Nile tour, kayaking, quad-biking, horse riding, bungee jumping, community tours and other activities.

As said, this is a good top up activity for the safari itinerary; meaning it can be done anytime you are on a safari and anytime of the year.

Though of course Rafters prefer June to October and late December to early March.

If you are going rafting, we also advise you have some Swimming knowledge or experience; just in case. But otherwise, white water rafting is the its thing; on a safari itinerary.
