Mgahinga, a 34 square kilometres in size, is Uganda’s smallest national park. The park is really beautiful. Mgahinga is at the forefront of Uganda’s wilderness experiences, with the dramatic volcanic skyline behind it, the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest across from it, and lake Bunyonyi and Mutanda to the left that are so picturesque, you can’t believe people don’t know about them.
This national park is home to a greater number of monkeys, whose survival is facilitated by the forests and woodland montane. This forest is home to the well-known Nyakagazi mountain gorilla family.
Where is Mgahinga Gorilla National Park located?
One of the greatest places to go on a safari in Uganda is Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, also known as Mgahinga National Park. It is situated in the southwest of the country. It borders Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park to the south and Virunga National Park to the south, situated between Mount Sabyinyo, Mount Gahinga, and Mount Muhabura.
The park is located approximately 60 kilometres west of Kibale town and 15 kilometres away by road from the town of Kisoro.
The wet rainy season in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park runs from February to May and from September to December. The average rainfall in October is between 250 and 280 mm, while in July it is between 10 and 12 mm.

Being one of Uganda’s smallest national parks, Mgahinga draws less visitors than other safari destinations like Queen Elizabeth national park and Bwindi impenetrable national park. Despite its small size, Mgahinga offers the most authentic safari experiences in the region, with popular safari activities including tracking golden monkeys, nature walks, safari tours that include bird watching in Uganda, hiking mountain volcanoes, and cultural tours.
